James Harknett, Fake Bake’s Global Creative Consultant, has been spray tanning since 2000 and has fashioned a unique style that has led to him being recognised as the number 1 tanning expert in the UK. Not only that but his celebrity clients include the likes of David Gandy, Emma Willis and Michelle Keegan and his tanning treatments are in demand the world over.
Celebrated as the UK’s answer to Jimmy Coco and the Tom Ford in tanning, we are very excited to bring you his weekly blog posts as he sets tanning trends, provides expert advice and talks tanning innovations.
My first summer with Fake Bake has been a joy for me. Firstly, I was so lucky to re-join the brand I had worked with when I launched my bespoke service 8 years ago. The brand has always been a special one for me as a world leader in tanning innovation.
My first job was to work with founder Sandra Vaughan in creating the 3D Tanning Contour Kit. I had been complemented on my layering technique and it seemed a natural progression to allow home tanners to try this for themselves using the iconic FB Airbrush and Flawless Coconut Tanning Serum. The kit has been featured heavily all over the Press and I was so proud to make the centre pages of the Daily Mail, showing ladies how it really can be done at home.
Part of my job is working with high profile personalities like Emma Willis and David Gandy. Recently I created the look for everyone's favourite Saturday, Mollie King, for her new video and promotional shoot. She's just the best to work with.
My recent project has been writing the new and exclusive Fake Bake Contouring Masterclass. I can't wait to start sharing my self-styled technique of spray tanning with fellow spray tanners. A skill I feel can enhance a tanning therapist’s business, leading to more demand and bigger profits. I had a blast working with Miss Scotland on the photo shoot for our accompanying work book.
Over the coming months I would love to use this blog as a way of answering any tanning queries you may have. I've gained a wealth of experience in 16 years so feel free to fire away with any questions!
